I quit my job. I have enough saved to last me 1 year. I have 365 days to find out how to earn a living. This is Day 17.
So here's the rub for today. I've been keeping extremely busy for the last several days. Definitely a consequence for having learned my lesson of wasting time from Day 12.
By the way, if you are short on time, or like to watch instead of read, check out the video below.
Day 17 Video
Me and my friend Brock have already recorded a few episodes of our podcast that will be coming out soon called Startup Ideas Podcast, which will be a podcast about giving away free business and Startup Ideas. So do be in the lookout for that. Super excited about this one.
The reason we're holding off on releasing the episodes is because of how we decided to launch the podcast. I did a lot of research on how best to launch a podcast and from what I've gathered, it's best to start off with several episodes available from the get go. The reason is because the more content you have out there, the more downloads are possible, the higher the chance you will get raised up on the high and mighty "New & Noteworthy" section on iTunes. Once you're there, you can get a lot of organic traffic. I'll definitely let you guys know how that works out.
As for my app Iron HUD, good news and bad news there. Apple finally gave the thumbs up and have reviewed and accepted the app, so this update is now available on the App Store. That's the good news. The bad news is that it's not really doing as well as I thought it would. I spent a few days getting great screenshots together and to create an awesome video preview, but it didn't seem to help very much.
If I truly think about it, it's hard for someone to justify spending money on something they can't even try. So... after reading this amazing article, I've decided to go a freemium route. I'll give my app away for free and create a few in app purchases for those few who try it, love it, and want more.
I have a good feeling about going this route even though it's only been a few days of the update being live at $0.99. There's something about this freemium route for apps that really aligns well with how normal sales funnels work ( something I learned while working at the startup company I used to work for ). But only time will tell. I'm not really getting that many downloads now, so there's really no harm in trying this out.
So I've got a plan for my app and my podcast. We'll see how this goes.
One extra thought before I finish. One thing I found interesting about these last few days was how differently I processed the news of how terrible Iron HUD was performing. For the last few weeks I have been extremely affected about how Apple rejected my app at first and basically any other speed bump that came along.
This time was different. I think a lot of that had to do with having several projects on my plate. I'm having a lot of fun so far recording these podcast episodes with Brock. I think that has helped balance me.
An interesting unintended consequence of choosing to do several projects throughout out this 365 Day Adventure.
