If you are starting off with little content on your website, it's hard to come up with a way to drive traffic without buying ads.
What makes it worse is that because you have little content, you don't have much to share on your social networks...
It's a bad place to be, but there is some hope! I'm going to show you a way in where you can drive traffic to your website, just by sharing someone else's content.
Categorize Your Content
First, take a look at the articles you currently have on your website and categorize them. Are they about blogging tips or content that entrepreneurs would enjoy? This is the point where you really need to hone in on basically what category of content you already have to offer and what type of people would enjoy that content. We'll call these your "Target Category" and "Target Audience" respectively. This part is extremely important as it will be the multiplying factor on the success of the traffic you drive.
Build A List of Related Articles
The next step is to go and hunt for articles, ( especially Evergreen articles ), that will resonate with your "Target Audience". Evergreen articles are best to use because you will be able to re-share them over and over again for months without fearing they will become unhelpful to your "Target Audience". Having trouble finding related articles?
Don't worry, I wasn't going to leave you hanging. The best place where I find great Evergreen articles is a little website called Pinterest.... YUP Pinterest!
Several reasons. Its built like a search engine. So if your "Target Category" is social media tips, then you simple type "social media tips" on the Pinterest search bar to get a whole host of great articles on social media tips.
It also has a built in rating system. The higher the re-pins on an article, the more confidence you will have that this article will resonate with your "Target Audience".
And Finally, 99% of these articles found on Pinterest have great imagery that will produce eye-catching thumbnails when shared on your Facebook and Twitter feed.
So hop on Pinterest and curate some great articles that match your "Target Category" or "Target Audience".
Now this is where the magic happens...
Time to Start A Fire
Now that you have a list of great articles that have eye-popping imagery, that you know will resonate with your "Target Audience" because they had a huge re-pin count on Pinterest...
It's time to put those articles to use!
We're going to use a tool called StartAFire. You can think of this tool like a link shortener but with recommendations. WHAT?!
Let me just show you. The following is a 3rd Party article that I picked out that I new would resonate with my "Target Audience", that I shortened and added recommendations to with StartAFire.
Here's the article. And Below is a screenshot. ( NOTE: THIS ARTICLE IS NOT MY ARTICLE )
Notice anything interesting in the bottom right corner?!
Yeah! Those are my articles from my website! On somebody else's site!
Are you starting to see the magic here?!
StartAFire essentially adds this little recommendation widget on the corner of any webpage to include 2 links back to your website. Now you know why it was important to find related articles that will resonate with your "Target Audience". The more the article you share matches your recommendations, the higher the chance users will click through to your articles!
This thing is a game changer!
And... It's as easy as shortening a link. StartAFire basically has two sections. One where you upload your recommendations ( articles from your website ), and then the links you want to shorten and add recommendations to.
As a bonus, it has integrations with the most popular social tools like Buffer and Hootsuite, so every link you post using Buffer or Hootsuite will automatically be shortened with StartAFire and have recommendations added to it.
That's mind blowing!
Now you can start sharing more 3rd party articles on social knowing that many of them will end up coming back to your website because of your related articles.
Have fun starting a fire!
