I quit my job. I have enough saved to last me 1 year. I have 365 days to find out how to earn a living. This is Day 25.
On Day 17 I struggled with the idea of giving away my app, Iron HUD, for free. I knew that I would get a lot more downloads, but what I wasn't sure about was if anyone would download the In App Purchase content.
By the way, if you are short on time, or like to watch instead of read, check out the video below.
Day 25 Video
Boy am I glad I tried it! With this switch, I started getting 500 to 600 downloads a day, and about $25-$30 worth of In App Purchases!
Obviously there's a lot more to it than just the IAP that made this app work out. The fact that it's based on Iron Man helps a lot, mostly helps in the traffic to the app, which is something I strategically chose because discovery is one of the biggest issues in the crowded App Store. I'm hoping that this app will bring traffic to my App Store page in general so any future app that I create can benefit, so we will see.
Startup Ideas Podcast is in full swing! I went ahead and released the the first two episodes ahead of schedule. I think that was probably a mistake. I knew I should have waited until I had a few more episodes recorded so that I could introduce all of them in the launch, but I guess I was getting a little impatient. It's not doing terrible, but I know it could be doing much better.
One more note on Iron HUD, I've gotten a few reviews already and some people are already requesting for new features! One fan has been requesting features like lasers and other weapons. I'm thinking that these reviews can be a great asset to know what new In App Purchases I should be adding. So... I'm going to go ahead and add some of these new weapons as IAP, and I'll let you know how that works out.
